What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium.
My favorite medium to work with is painting, preferably oil and water colors. Although I haven't been able to paint much in these few months, I still have most experience with it before starting any sort of art class. Because of my previous experience with paints, I understand the use of different techniques, mixing colors, and the uses of different brushes. I also find the outcome much more rewarding than other art mediums. I was able to master these techniques simply by spending time with them and observing how other artists worked with it. Discuss one project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain . The Project where I felt least successful in was the printing. I had never done printing before so it was challenge for me. I failed with choosing the correct colors to make the picture look its best. I also failed with making the art piece look less messy and more organized but I didn't pay much attention to it. To make the piece look better, I would definitely change the colors and make the lines less thick. I was worried that the colors wouldn't come out if I made the lines too small or thin, however I worried too much and the outcome wasn't the best. The colors don't fit well together and barely blend. Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain. The two mini projects I chose are from the pen and ink and chalk units. With the pastel chalk, I was able to practice more with both the medium of the chalk but also with colors and shading. Its helped with my choice of choosing colors whenever I wish to make something realistic. I also practiced the shading. The next mini project was the ink drawing of various spherical objects. These drawings helped majorly with drawing/sketching different types of textures as well as shading with them. I also learned how to use pen and ink in drawings. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making? My artistic style and perspective is quite broad. I enjoy doing different things to achieve different art pieces. However, I do prefer using paints and pencils mostly. In any art creation, the importance is putting out a vision into a physical sense. Whether it be sight, sound, touch, or smell. To me, an artist becomes successful when someone says "wow", even if they say it in their head or if they mean it in a negative way. Just as long as someone takes their time to look at the art piece then to me it is a success. That, in a sense, is also the reward; when a person has to stop what they're doing to take even just a glance at what you made. The most important skill I draw upon to create something is having a silenced mind. As long as my mind is blank yet focused on creating what I want, then the outcome is usually always positive. Another skill that is useful is paying attention to the small details of color, shape, perspective, and shades. Using that, i'm able to make something much more realistic. I have learned many, many different things while creating art. One of the most important aspects of it, is to learn to be confident in what you do and to learn from your mistakes and start again. That is something, that as an artist, is most important to me. |
